Some culture media contain components that cannot withstand high temperatures and pressures of 121°C. Autoclaving will decompose the selected components, allowing unwanted bacteria that should be inhibited to grow, thus compromising the culture media's performance. Boiling (100°C) is acceptable, but do not use an autoclave.
